Yoga

Image
I got a decent amount of sleep last night, can you believe!? So I am up early today, and I started the day with one of my favorite things, my yoga practice. Yoga came to me years ago, as a way to stay flexible as I grow older, and then became a way for me to work through my anxiety. From there I began to meditate and work with the breath, and yoga has become a huge part of my spiritual practice.  With the upcoming changes (I promise I will let you know all the news soon!) it's my intention to begin teaching yoga more regularly. I want to teach in a way that is accessible and inclusive. I want to help guide others into healing for themselves, This is a deep desire of mine. I may be shifting the amount of salon work and art work to make adequate space to grow my yoga teaching practice as well as offering healing sessions on a regular basis. My intention is a more balanced life. Less striving and struggling, and more trust, grace, and flow. In the warmer months, I would love to ...

Chill(y) Sunday

Image
It's my favorite day of the week. I love the slower pace of Sunday. I know I have some privilege in that I don't work on Sundays, and I recognize that. But there were several years of my life where I did have to work Sundays which makes me appreciate my now-work-free weekends that much more.  I like not having an alarm to wake up to. I like long conversations with my husband on the back porch over coffee. I think it is one day out of the week where mentally, I can allow myself to rest without guilt. (Hey, I am working on letting myself rest any time I want without guilt, but this 'productivity/worthiness' mindset is deep-seated.) I remember all those years through my 20s and early 30s when Sunday, which is a day of rest, was the most hectic day of the week. I got up so early, to get my family fed, and get my son ready (he was still small), and then we'd head to church. Sunday school at 9 am, followed by church service at 10:30. Then we'd get home around 2 or 3:0...

Saturday Stuff

Image
It's late evening, and I'm sitting at my desk as the sun fades and the moon rises. I have some time to myself and I really want to write, but I have to be honest, I don't know what this post is going to be about. I'm just going to write until I feel like I'm finished, kind of the same way I create artwork. If that sounds completely boring, go ahead and skip this post. No big deal. Have you ever said, "No big deal." When the deal was in fact, quite big? I think we all have a time or two. My advice (like you even asked for it) is: never downplay the size of the deal.  If you need something, speak up. If you're upset or confused, speak up. If you don't want to do a thing or go to a place, say no. The world won't explode. You may disappoint someone, but it will be a good lesson for you in standing your ground, and a good lesson for them in being gracious in disagreement. It took me several years to learn this skill. I always wanted to please everyo...

Uhhhhhhhhh…

We’ve made it to the end of a stormy week, both literally and figuratively. It’s cold out today, but flowers are beginning to bloom and the sun is more golden each day, so Spring is slowly waking up.  I slept like crap last night. This is my new normal. Once in a while I take valerian root, or if I’m very desperate,  Zzzquil, which I took last night because I needed to be up early today and wanted more than 2-3 hours of sleep. As I often do, I try to get to sleep on my own, but around 12:30 I knew I was going to still be flailing in bed at 3AM and took a shot of the purple fire liquid and was halfway human this morning. I took my car in for an oil change and it was so fancy, they text you a video feed of them WHILE THEY’RE WORKING ON YOUR CAR. The mechanic showed me my ‘beautiful brakes’ and the ‘engine looking so good!’ It made me feel like a very good car mom. My car is healthy and beautiful!  The stress I spoke of yesterday, there are some possible resolutions co...

Tower moments.

Image
Like I briefly mentioned yesterday, life is a little (a lot) stressful at the moment. I am quite emotional this morning. I journaled and worked with my cards to get a little clarity. A few days ago, I got the tower, and I have had the inkling even before that that big changes were coming down the pike. Change isn’t a bad thing, but it does tend to heighten my anxiety, just because my human habit is to believe that control equals safety. And I know that is not exactly true, and I am working on releasing that mindset. Moving my body and meditating is helpful, so I am making it a priority. (More of a priority than usual, I should say. I'm pretty regular with those things.)  I am deep in my feelings right now, so I want to know what they are here to teach me. What messages do you have for me, anxious thoughts? What information do you carry with you, uncertainty and fear? I have so far figured out that I do not like situations where it seems I don’t have a real choice in the matt...

Wednesday morning brain dump.

Image
I was up early, for a bit, but a migraine hangover sent me back to bed for a few hours. If you didn't know, migraine has about 45 different triggers. My main trigger is barometric pressure shifts. It only has to shift by .12 to make explosions burst in my skull. So I had a rough one last night, and today I am in the postdrome hangover; it's the pits. Anyway, I meditated, showered, and dressed. I am meeting my new friend today in just a little bit and I want to at least resemble a functioning human, haha. I'm planning to work on some paintings today, and wire the back of my big piece for my gallery show coming up next month. I am beyond excited about this show. It will be Huntsville, Alabama so most of my friends can come. All the work is finished, except attaching the hanging wire to the painting like I mentioned, but I have a tough time sticking to one piece from start to finish, without hopping onto another piece. I generally am working on three to four paintings at any ...

Errands, the library, and I love my hair right now.

I had a rough night, my husband snores sometimes, and last night was one of those nights. I slept on the couch for a few hours, not well, but I slept. Before he left for work this morning, my husband tucked me into our bed and I was out cold immediately and slept until 11:30.  What is it about getting tucked in that brings instant comfort? I think it tells our inner child that things are OK. To me, it feels safe. I wonder sometimes, does anyone ever just wake up in the morning and think, ”I feel so refreshed ! I can’t believe I slept so well!” I really don’t think so. There is too much blue light and Wi-Fi and EMFs and civilization NOISE for any of us to sleep well. HOW DO WE SLEEP AT ALL IN THIS MESS?! I would love to have a cozy treehouse to sleep in, but of course, I would need an air conditioner and a lamp to read my book, so really never mind, I’m in the Wi-Fi soup and not escaping any time soon!

Monday, buttered toast, and sneaky periods.

Image
I woke up around 6am, with a sneaky, weeks-early period. I don’t hate my period like I used to. I am much more wise about it, and the benefits of it. So, my attitude surrounding is it much kinder. I allow myself to rest the first few days instead of white knuckling through like I used to.  But still, 10 days early? A month ago it was 17 days late! And I have been to the doc recently; I am not even in perimenopause much less ACTUAL menopause. Ah, well. I’ll learn what I need to from all the weirdness. After taking care of blood-related things this morning, I made my tea (sweet, sweet English Breakfast) and a piece of buttered toast. And not Wonder bread, toast. Though, there is nothing wrong with Wonder bread, I prefer crusty Italian bread or a baguette. I like it to leave a million crumbs on the plate so I KNOW I ate real bread. And I like it almost-but-not-quite-burnt. So the knife makes that scraping sound when you spread the butter. You know what I mean? I skipped yoga asa...

Sunday Brain Dump

This morning I am still in a great mood after that class yesterday. My healing work has a new facet that is exciting and affirming to me, and I’m looking forward to working in this new modality. If you want to get to know your pets better, get in touch with me!  It’s a beautiful thing to me, how energy work has this common thread of working within the unified field, connection between all living things, and the desire to serve the highest good. Learning this work has been life-changing for me, and I am really excited to learn more and more and grow in my practice as an intuitive energy healer.

Animals really like talking to us!

Image
So, as promised, I am here to tell you all about the Animal Communication workshop I attended yesterday.  I can describe it one word: AMAZING. Before I get into it, let me tell you, I signed up for the class, cautiously optimistic. I have seen first hand how healing in the quantum field is possible, and even more than possible, effective.  And I figured if it was similar to distance Reiki, it would be totally legit. But I have never attended a class at this particular center and have not worked with or met any of the facilitators, so this was going to be a new experience for me. My husband and I joked about it in the week leading up to the class. While he is 100% supportive of any and every thing I want to do, he is also very funny, and in our house, nothing is off limits to joking. And I appreciate this so much. It keeps us both grounded, in a weird way, and life is just better when you don’t take anything too seriously.  On my end, I was excited, and wanted this ...

Welcome to my brain dump. Make yourself at home.

I  got up this morning after a rough night with a migraine  attack. I feel like a wrung out dishrag after an episode like that. But I still got up today, granted at ten in the morning,  and I lit my candles, cleansed my space, and practiced yoga (for ten minutes, tops).  Hey, it was something.
