Tuesday TootsDay

This low spot, this fog, that I'm currently in, has made me realize something about healing. I mean I knew this, but I guess this current situation reminded me: healing works if you do the work. What I mean is, healing is comprised of layers and layers of different techniques, beliefs, tools, rituals, etc. And there is not ONE magic bullet that solves every challenge that shows up in your life. But if you're consistent with your practice and learn to be kind to yourself (and others, let's be honest here) you're able to carry yourself through to the other side of whatever tough thing you're facing (when I say SELF, I'm also referring to your guides, deity, and spirit family because all is ONE, so you aren't truly alone, in a literal sense. It can feel that way at times, but you aren't). Although my energy is low right now, and things feel really dense I have a deep sense of calm that this isn't THE END. The end of me, or the end of the world, or the ...

Migraine Fog-Monday Brain Dump

Image
It’s been a few days since I posted. Had a few stressful days. I'll be honest, I've been in the midst of a depressive episode since about last Sunday, it's nothing new; I'm used to the cyclical nature of my depression, and I haven't lost hope. It doesn't feel very good, but at least I know what is going on with me, so I'm not fearful or upset about it.  My Moma knows when things are off with me, and she asked a lot the past few days, 'You good, hun?' And I really am OK. Nothing to worry over. This type of episode hits me a few times a year, and generally lasts 2-4 weeks. I'm taking care of myself. I appreciate my Moma and her concern, though. It's nice to be looked after, even as a grown woman :) I am treating myself kindly, allowing myself to rest when I need to, not policing my emotions (if I start crying for seemingly no reason, I don't chide myself over it; I let it flow). I know that my emotions are not who I am, they are just messe...

Tuesday Brain Dump!

Image
First!  From Monday:  It’s Spring, and although it’s been cold the past few nights, the days are mostly sunny and warm, and my little heart can’t get enough. I want to be outside all day and eat picnics and walk my dog (if I could leash train my cats, I totally would. What a dream to have all three black kitties on a leash and walk around the neighborhood with them!) Anyway, my husband is out of town for work for the week so I have plans for productive days and quiet evenings with lots of books, and yes I will finally finish Queen of the Damned this week! I am enjoying it, so I didn’t rush to finish it last week (and our library here abolished due dates, so I can really take my time reading it!)   … Is it my favorite book ever? No. But it is enjoyable, and well written, and I think I may read some more Anne Rice novels in the future, whenever I am in a Vampire mood. She also wrote a book about Jesus, that I’ve heard is very good, so I may try that one. … I’m excited bec...

What does healing look like?

Image
I wrote about healing  on my other  blog :)  Less brain dump-y.  Bye.

Podcast, meditation, and the migraine takeover.

Image
It’s Sunday, I am fighting a migraine (it snowed yesterday and is in the 30's today, and will be in the 70s tomorrow!!)  This week I was interviewed on a podcast. A few weeks back I had the host on MY show, and he invited me to be a guest on his. It airs tomorrow night at 7-PM on YouTube. ( Trevor Jackson T.V.)  Trevor is a prolific creator, with several different podcasts covering a wide range of topics. My interview is on his Higher Vibration channel.  We talked about my artwork, and my work as a Reiki healer, among other things.  Before we started recording, we were just chatting, and the subject of hairstyles came up (I was having trouble with my hair and my headphones, haha. Like a bird's nest!) And we were talking about having longer hair when Trevor mentioned maybe getting braids put in his hair. I told him that I have wanted braids for a long time, but wanted to be mindful of the social climate and my place as a white woman in American society. Meaning ...

Thursdays are OK.

Image
Thursdays are OK.  Like I said yesterday. So you know my husband's birthday was Tuesday, so today we went to pick up his birthday present. He got a motorcycle. He's been wanting one since his last one got stolen a couple years ago. I haven't seen him that excited about something in a really long time. It was really nice to see him genuinely happy and stoked. On a stupid note, I have a killer migraine today. I knew it was coming. I was really lightheaded yesterday and had a hard time focusing. And this morning, I couldn't stop yawning and had that weird pressure around my left eye (my migraines are always on the left side of my head.) I call it the pre-show, haha.

Wednesday Brain Dump. I love Wednesdays.

Image
Wednesday is my favorite day of the week. I have always liked it. (I do not call it Hump Day.) I think I like it because it's right in the middle of the week, all cozy-like. On Monday I feel overwhelmed by the week ahead, I make TO-DO lists and clean my house like a madwoman, flitting from one task to the next without finishing the first, until I've circled back and eventually finish what I started. I've seen a lot recently about women with ADD, and I have a lot of the markers, but I refuse to social-media-self-diagnose. Let me just say, I do not complete tasks in a linear fashion, but I'm OK with it. It makes for interesting Mondays. Tuesdays, I take it a little easy on myself and all the TO-DO list pressure. I run errands and usually get groceries and meal-plan for the week. I always AIM to study, but most of the time, if I leave the house for any reason, that is THE ONLY big task I accomplish that day. It's like my brain says, "One task only please; I can on...

Light and heavy and light.

It is my husband’s actual birthday today, so I am planning to surprise him at work in just a little while with his favorite coffee and make his favorite meal for dinner: loco moco. It’s a Hawaiian dish consisting of rice, a meat patty (I use turkey for the guys, I leave the meat out of mine), a fried egg, and brown gravy on top. It is a monster of a meal, pure comfort to my husband, so he’s going to be pretty excited about it. I had one of the worst migraine attacks I have ever had yesterday (and into the night). Nothing helped. Usually, if I take Excedrin and have some coffee or tea, I can kind of dull the pain enough to function, but that did not work for me yesterday. I had a prescription that worked for a little while, although it made me feel VERY spaced out, but it stopped being effective the last few times I took it. I slept in the afternoon, but not for long, and my head was still throbbing when I woke up. In the late evening I took ExcedrinPM, hoping it would give me some...

Friday:Reiki course, Mexican food, and no acro yoga. Saturday:Work, charcuterie, and more patio sits.

Image
FRIDAY:  Emily and I most assuredly did not cook dinner at the apartment last night, we went to get Mexican food instead. Then we sat out on the patio, lit some candles and incense, read cards for each other, and talked for a few hours.  Let me tell you what, I LOVE sitting on a porch or patio and talking. My husband and I spend most of our Sunday mornings doing that. We make coffee, sit on the porch and just talk talk talk. It's the best. Reiki school! I just started a course to get my Master Level Reiki  certification. After I'm finished with this course I'll be qualified to teach Level I Reiki. I have felt a pull to teach for a long time, and now I'm ready.  I work in the salon today, and then tonight Emily and I are going to acro yoga. I've done some acro in Knoxville, and am looking forward to doing some with my Huntsville friends. It'll be a good wind down after a workday. I will report back! Speaking of reporting back, I never did report back on Queen of...

Thursday Thaaaangs

Image
Yesterday, my coffee run was successful (I got a honey and lavender latte-delicious), I procured a couple stones and incense and tiny candles, and I didn't get a cardigan because the weather is gradually warming for the rest of the week, so it's fine.  I went to Lowe Mill with Emily in the evening yesterday and we ate at the The Veggie (OH MY GOSH AMAZING) and then went to see my show all hung up. It looked so nice with the gallery lighting turned on, I am so happy. We ran into Bryson (Thurston) whom I interviewed on the podcast a few weeks back and got a copy of his book he just published. Emily and I were going to go goof off a bit and sing karaoke but it turned out the place that used to have it on Wednesday wasn't doing it. We were a little bummed but then the notion of coming to the apartment, getting into sweatpants and just chilling out sounded more and more amazing the closer we got to the apartment, haha. So it was an early night because I had work at the salon th...

March Work Trip

Image
I am sitting in Huntsville, Alabama, in my soul sister  Emily’s apartment. I drove down yesterday to hang my  show at Lowe Mill. I work in the salon this weekend, but since   I had to come down for the gallery hanging I have a whole entire extra day to do whatever I want before the start of my work weekend tomorrow!  I woke up this morning and the sun is shining right into the window, so I did my breathwork and  meditation with the sun on my face. I prayed over the day and the coming weeks. I did my asana practice, and spoke with my husband on the phone for a bit. Now I’m typing this.   I have an app on my iPad called Hanx Writer, (interestingly, invented by Tom Hanks. Turns out he likes to type on typewriters, so he (or his team or whatever) developed this app that makes all the dings and pops and taps and keystroke sounds of real typewriters while typing on the iPad.) I personally LOVE the sound of typewriters so I use the app a lot, especially for...
